Logistics
 Welcome

Welcome to the Business Administration Logistics page. Logistics is a very wide-ranging field. You're probably already familiar with some of these terminologies: supply-chain management, outsourcing, storage and distribution, transportation management, customs, customer service, and freight-forwarding. Well, this is only a sampling of the many interesting topics, and careers that you will learn about as you study the Logistics value chain. If you would like to get a broader perspective as to the scope of this field, check out the definitions at Logistics World.

As you probably have figured out, Logistics is not a new business concept. It has been an integral Management function for centuries. Think about it--historical observers attribute the inability of Napoleon to capture Moscow, back in 1861, to the fact that he did not have an operationally adequate supply chain (poor Logistics Management).

So why so much "new" emphasis on this field?

THINK GLOBALLY

Even though every business operation (domestic or international) has placed renewed emphasis on Logistics Management, globalization has brought huge new demands on the international movement of goods and services (which is what we consider as part of our International Business program).

ACT LOCALLY

Within our local southern California area, we live in one of the premier worldwide hubs of goods movement. The ports of Long Beach and Los Angeles are ranked 3rd in the world in goods movement (tonnage) with an air, ground (rail/truck) and processing (storage/distribution) infrastructure to match.
