In his book Vanguard Management, James O’Toole writes about the 1954 movie Executive Suite, in which he describes the new President of the Treadway Corporation as someone who “saw that success in management was not predicated on technique. Instead, his underlying assumption was that the art of management is to continually meet the corporation’s changing responsibilities to all of those who have a stake in it….with balance (and) with moral symmetry”.
